Office at waterlogged cemetery catches fire

MADISON, Ind. - A weekend fire at the office of a cemetery under investigation was intentionally set, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said Monday. The Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire at Grandview Memorial Gardens, which was reported shortly after midnight Saturday, the sheriff's department said in a statement. The fire marshal's office could not be reached for comment late Monday afternoon.

No one was injured in the blaze.

The Indiana Attorney General's office already is investigating financial activity at the 40-acre cemetery involving money paid for burial plots, vaults and grave markers. Grandview is about 40 miles north of Louisville, Ky.

The cemetery also has had to exhume several bodies to correct problems with waterlogged graves.

Phone calls seeking comment were left for Grandview Gardens representatives late Monday afternoon.
