Cannibal sells film rights PDF Print E-mail

Hamburg - The man in Germany convicted earlier this year of killing and partially devouring his homosexual lover has sold film and book rights to his case for an undisclosed sum, it was announced on Thursday.
The Hamburg-based Stampfwerk film production company said it had acquired the rights and plans to produce a documentary film on the life of Armin Meiwes.

He is now serving an 8½-year sentence in prison on a manslaughter conviction.

A book is also in the offing, company head Guenter Stampf said. He declined to say how much money was involved.

It is the second film project about the grisly killing.

In July, a gay filmmaker in Germany announced plans to bring to the big screen a story based on Meiwes' case.

Rosa von Praunheim, 61, whose has shocked audiences for more than 30 years with often-outrageous films bearing such titles as Can I Be Your Bratwurst, Please?, said the new production has the working title Dein Herz In Meinem Hirn (Your Heart In My Brain).

Meiwes was convicted by a court in Kassel last January for the death of Bernd Brandes, a man he had met via an internet chat room seeking gay lovers to "gobble up".

During the headline-grabbing trial, Meiwes said his victim had begged to be killed and eaten.

Prosecution videotapes Meiwes had recorded of the killing backed up his testimony.

Agreeing with that argument, the court convicted him of manslaughter, not murder. - Sapa-dpa
