By Molly Lopez The Manhattan funeral home handling Heath Ledger's services has been the discreet institution of choice for families of celebrities ranging from Jackie O. to Aaliyah. A brief history of the stars that have been laid to rest at the 110-year-old Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel over the years: • 1926: Silent-screen actor Rudolph Valentino's funeral draws nearly 100,000 mourners. • 1969: Campbell's stays open all night as 20,000 mourners file through to view Judy Garland's casket. • 1980: John Lennon's body is taken to the chapel, where the slain musician's family requests that his funeral preparations be kept private. • February 1983: Theater bigwigs and fans join family and friends at the chapel to pay their respects to playwright Tennessee Williams. • 1991: Eric Clapton's four-year-old son, Conor, is taken to Campbell's before being transported to England for his funeral. • 1994: A crowd surges around the hearse when it arrives at Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's apartment to escort her body to the funeral home. • 1997: Notorious B.I.G. is transported to Campbell's after he is gunned down in Los Angeles. As the rapper is remembered by friends and family, fans gather outside listening to his music. • 2001: Pop singer Aaliyah's casket leaves the funeral home in a glass-encased, horse-drawn carriage and is taken to a nearby church, where mourners including Missy Elliott, Jay-Z and Chris Rock attend a private service. • 2003: Salsa queen Celia Cruz is also carried from Campbell's to her funeral in a horse-drawn carriage. Fans gather outside the chapel in hopes of seeing the singer one last time. • July 2005: Legendary R&B singer Luther Vandross's viewing is held at the home, and hundreds of fans wait hours to pay their respects. • August 2005: Family members lay ABC anchorman Peter Jennings to rest in a private funeral at the chapel. • 2006: Everybody Loves Raymond actor Peter Boyle's memorial service is held at the funeral home. Attendees including co-stars Ray Romano, Doris Roberts, Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett listen as Chris Botti plays his trumpet. • August 2007: Hotelier Leona Helmsley's intimate funeral service is held at the chapel. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20173693,00.html
