(AHN) - There are thousands of cadavers being donated to medical schools every year. Human bodies are needed for the education of medical students and for research as well.
The universities do their best to treat the the remains with care and keep tabs on tracking them. However, even though it is illegal to buy or sell body parts, thefts still occur, because it is legal for companies to provide reasonable fees for the procurement and handling of the bodies or body parts.

Allegedly, a man in Texas was recently accused of stealing bodies from a local university and then selling them.

Currently, there is no federal agency or any organization that watches over these procedures. It has been suggested that a national uniform law may be needed to stop the multitude of alleged bodies being stolen from medical schools.

In an attempt to stop future thefts, some of the medical schools are taking offensive steps to prevent them, including radio-transmitted tracking devices, security cameras in cadaver locations, and electronic locks for the facilities.

Researchers and medical training professionals are concerned that people may stop donating bodies to science if these thefts are not stopped. A shortage of donated bodies could certainly delay future benefits for the living.
