I was recently in a funeral procession for a dear friend and was outraged by the lack of respect some people had for the procession. Do some people not know the basic courtesy and respect that needs to be shown to a funeral procession? Or do they know and choose to disregard them? Several cars went in between the funeral procession, and one almost hit me when swerving between the procession to get to a turning lane. I was always taught to show respect and honor to such an event and was surprised to find that some have not been taught this or choose to disregard it.

I have been to several funerals in the past two years and, unfortunately, have seen this behavior before. What really gets me is this funeral procession was for a man who served many years for our country, and still some people cannot even show respect.

I hope that these individuals realize that one day they will also be in a funeral procession and will want the same respect for their loved one.

I do wish to thank the Stafford police for trying so hard to block all the intersections and keep us together, regardless of others who choose to disregard respect for others, especially for a dear man who served and fought for his country.

Please remember the next time you come upon a funeral procession, to take a few minutes of your time and allow it to proceed without interruption.
