Temple hosts rare Buddha collection

Associated Press BLOOMINGTON Ã¢â‚¬â€œ An interfaith temple will host a rare collection of more than 1,000 relics of the Buddha and other Buddhist Masters next weekend. They will be displayed at the Chamtse Ling Interfaith Temple, consecrated by the Dalai Lama on the grounds of the Tibetan Cultural Center last September, the center announced. The public can view the relics free Aug. 28-29. The relics, which have been collected from the ashes of spiritual masters after their cremation, include bone fragments and crystalline, pearl-like deposits that the traditions of the eastern religion attribute to the mastersÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ inner purity. The relics are traveling the world until 2008, when they will be installed at a shrine containing a500-foot Buddha statue in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, in northern India. The collection includes relics of the Buddha, his disciples and other saints and spiritual masters from the Chinese, Indian and Tibetan traditions. An opening ceremony with religious leaders Friday will be closed to the public, but public viewing will be available the following two days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking at the center costs $3. http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/news/nation/9461099.htm
