PennDOT Paves Over Old Grave; Will Ask To Have Remains Moved

LOWER BURRELL, Pa. -- A 165-year-old grave accidentally paved over by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Westmoreland County could be dug up and moved to a new location. It didn't take long for them to find something. Now, they'll ask a judge to approve an exhumation. "From the start, we've said we are very sensitive about this issue and we want to make it right," PennDOT's Dave Enick said. Dorothy Harder, a great-great-great cousin believed to be one of Kennedy's only living relatives, said she will give permission for the exhumation. PennDOT crews used a ground-penetrating radar tool on Monday to see if any of Sarah Ann Kennedy's remains were left under the pavement at Puckety Church Cemetery in Lower Burrell. Kennedy's grave would be moved to another location at the cemetery, Channel 4 Action News reporter Jennifer Miele said. Part of the grave was mistakenly paved over while PennDOT crews were trying to widen Puckety Church Road. The widening project will be delayed until the spring, giving the department time to finish dealing with the Kennedy situation, PennDOT said. http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/9677175/detail.html
