Funeral director's first burial is her dad

OPA-LOCKA, FL-A woman never expected that the first person she would embalm and bury as a funeral director would be her own father. Lori Davis recently became funeral director at the Rock of Ages Funeral Chapel. Then, her 68-year-old father, Emory Hadley Jr., was fatally stabbed earlier this month in his bed. Hadley's nephew, Garchester Wallace, has been charged with first degree murder in the July 5 killing, and police said they had a fight before Hadley's death. Davis said doing her father's embalming herself was important, though she sometimes had to leave her work half-finished and drive around listening to gospel music to calm her emotions. "It's bringing people back to life for me," Davis said of her work. At his burial Saturday, Davis had her father's dark blue casket surrounded by hundreds of sunflowers, daisies and roses. She folded the baby blue blanket by his feet and adjusted his formal black jacket before saying goodbye. http://www.theledger.com/article/20070715/APN/707150611
