Human Skulls Stolen From Mausoleum PDF Print E-mail

PHILADELPHIA (KYW) Human skulls were reportedly stolen from a North Philadelphia grave.

Investigative Reporter Walt Hunter has learned that two skulls were stolen from inside a mausoleum.
According to police, the bizarre incident took place at the New Cathedral Cemetery in which the culprits drilled through the stone roof of the grave to get inside. The grave apparently contained eight bodies, some dating back to the 1800’s.

After noticing the grave had been tampered with, Hunter reports the cemetery caretaker and authorities checked the structure and noticed the missing skulls. Recent weather conditions created a muddy mess inside the mausoleum making the investigation somewhat difficult.

Officials confirm that a forensic anthropologist will attempt to determine what, if anything else, was taken from inside the grave. “He’s the person with the expertise here and he will be able to tell us what’s missing and what happened,” said Lt. Jim Miller of the Philadelphia Police.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the crime and say they have rarely ever seen anything like it.
