A CORPSE was allegedly stolen while another had some of its bones removed from their graves in a village cemetery at Six Mile in Port Moresby, Six Mile Police Station commander Senior Inspector Jeffrey Lamb said yesterday. Mr Lamb said one of the corpses in its coffin was completely removed after it was dug out from its grave.
“The other one had some of its bones removed after its cement grave was slightly open,” Mr Lamb said.
He said they could not tell whether the grave that had the coffin removed was cemented or not.

“We suspect that the corpses were tampered with last month to obtain their bones, finger nails or hair to practise sorcery.

“Two other cement graves were also partially damaged,” he said.

He said the cemetery was owned by the Korobosea villagers.

Mr Lamb said a village youth group discovered the incident when they were cleaning the cemetery yesterday.

“We are now waiting for relatives of those deceased to come forward and help us investigate the matter,” he said.

Mr Lamb said the suspects would be charged with tampering with the corpse. “We are now appealing to the public to provide us with information,” he said.
