Eerie rumors have been circulating that ghosts are lurking in a local cemetery, but when a group of amateur ghost hunters tried to check it out, the only thing they found was a lot of trouble.

Believe what you may, but some say that Thayer Cemetery is haunted.

Just last April, a research group gained permission to enter the private cemetery in Northville Twp. to study the paranormal. Group members said they were drawn to the north end of the cemetery at 6 Mile & Napier, near the headstones of the Spiess and Deake families.

One researcher said the feeling of depression was so great near those particular tombstones that he fell to the ground and cried.

Thayer Cemetery was established in the early 1800s, and the last known interment there was back in 1941. Recently, the cemetery has attracted a wealth of attention because researchers of the paranormal have posted their work on the internet.

The curious, mostly young people, have been trespassing on the property, and vandalism of the cemetery’s old schoolhouse has only complicated the problem. Seven people have already been arrested this month for trespassing on cemetery grounds.
