SPOOKY goings-on have been revealed by ghost hunters at a Mirfield pub.

UK Haunted - a team of mediums, photographers, historians, tarot readers and crystal readers - visited the Three Nuns Inn at Leeds Road, Cooper Bridge, on a spook-hunt. Fifty members of the public paid for the privilege of witnessing the UK Haunted team at work.

They held seances and ouija board sessions, as well as monitoring for supernatural activity using mediums, electromagnetic sensors and dowsing rods.

Nicola Froggett, UK Haunted founder member, said some of the crew and 12 guests all saw a dark figure rocking in a corner, near a portrait of a nun.

She said others felt their arms and shoulders being touched during seances and several people experienced unexplained cold spots in the pub.

Nicola herself, a trainee medium, saw a mental image of a woman in the kitchen area.

She said: "The room in the image looked more like a living area. I had a vision of a lady struggling to give birth on the floor on her own.

"She died not long after, perhaps from the birth trauma."

Nicola and the team are still analysing the results of the event, comparing them to facts about the pub's history.

It was built on the site of an earlier hostelry, which dated from 1497.

The name, the Three Nuns, given in the 1600s, recalls the fact that nuns from nearby Kirklees Priory took refuge at the hostelry when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 1530s.

UK Haunted visited the pub because staff had reported tales of loud banging noises in the night and poltergeist activity, such as taps turning on and off by themselves.

Nicola said the event had been worthwhile.

She said: "It was a big success. We must not have scared people enough - 18 of those that came have already booked for other local events!"

UK Haunted are due to hold further investigations at the Royal and Ancient at Colne Bridge on October 23, The Fleece at Elland on November 13 and New Lee Garden Restaurant and Hotel at Meltham November 20.
