Wreath-laying Ceremony Saturday For Huntington PDF Print E-mail

Article is below...

I was just at the Huntington tomb at Norwichtown Burial Grounds this past Sunday taking pictures. You should see what they have done around the tomb!
There'a a brand new iron fence round the top of the tomb, and the whole area around it is landscaped. And it's wheelchair accessable! Which is really funny because the burial ground covers over two steep hills with waist high grass. The
Huntington tomb is on the side of one of the hills, near a brook that divides the two hills. How you would get a wheel chair out there is beyond me.

Norwich, CT - State and local officials will host a
wreath-laying ceremony Saturday at the tomb of Samuel Huntington to mark the Founding Father's 274th birthday and to promote the idea that Huntington should be recognized as the first president of the United States.

William Stanley, president of the Norwich Historical Society and leading advocate for Huntington's status as first president, said the ceremony is a state tribute to Huntington, the state's governor after the Revolutionary War. Stanley hopes to gain national recognition for Huntington and nine
other presidents of Congress before the U.S. Constitution was written in 1787 and ratified in 1789.

Saturday's ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the Norwichtown Cemetery behind Huntington's historic home on East Town Street. The Second Connecticut Governor's Foot Guard will provide a color guard and play field music at the ceremony.
Guest speakers include state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, R-Second District.

The event is free and open to the public.
