Funeral Home Owner Indicted on Six Charges PDF Print E-mail

JOHNSTOWN - Hollenbeck Funeral Home owner Steven Blomquist and his girlfriend were indicted on six charges, including two felonies, Wednesday by a Fulton County grand jury. The charges stem from a drug raid at the funeral home Nov. 3 in which 16 people, including Blomquist and girlfriend Linda Flood, were arrested.

The indictment charged Blomquist and Flood with felony first-degree criminal nuisance, felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the indictment, during October and through Nov. 3, Flood and Blomquist "knowingly and unlawfully" used the funeral home to engage in the unlawful sale of controlled substances.

Fulton County Court Judge Richard Giardino said the indictment does not allege Blomquist or Flood sold drugs themselves, but that Blomquist was running a house where he allowed the use and sale of drugs.

The three counts of endangering the welfare of a child stem from three children younger than 17 being at the funeral home while drug activity was going on.

Blomquist, who was present at the hearing, also had his bail reduced to $100,000. His bail originally was $150,000.

"I thought things would have worked out differently," said Christopher Pelli, Blomquist's attorney. "I'm upset the bail was only lowered to the extent it was."

Fulton County District Attorney Louise Sira said the amount is the standard bail for a class B felony charge.

"It's a significant amount of money to come up with," she said. "I'm comfortable with that amount."

Sira said she sees Blomquist as a flight risk.

"I don't see a whole lot keeping him here," Sira added.

Flood has not been scheduled for an appearance and was not present Wednesday.

Both Blomquist and Flood remain at the Fulton County Jail this morning.

Sira said she is ready to proceed to trial.

The drugs confiscated during the Nov. 3 drug raid have been sent to the New York state drug lab, Sira said.

City police confiscated $369 in cash, 4 grams of crack cocaine, 2.7 grams of marijuana, one marijuana pipe and five crack pipes in the raid.

Blomquist is scheduled to appear before Fulton County Court Judge Polly Hoye Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
