Funeral home agrees to pay costs to identify corpse PDF Print E-mail

A funeral home that handled 2003 services for a Lubbock woman has agreed to pay the costs to identify the corpse.

A daughter of 77-year-old Esther Louise Riley questions whether the body in the casket is her mother.

Debbie Bartholomew has said no family members had looked inside her mother's closed coffin.

White Funeral Home records show the body inside is five inches taller than her mother.

Bartholomew last July filed a complaint with the Texas Funeral Service Commission, which reviewed the case Tuesoday.

Funeral home official Gary White says no mistake was made, but he's glad to provide whatever assistance to put this matter to an end.

The commission also fined White two-thousand dollars for embalming Riley's body against her family's wishes.

White says he chose to embalm the body because of public health issues.
