An east Detroit cemetery has admitted to a mix-up after a beloved wife and mother was buried in the wrong grave. The family says that’s not enough. Ziggy Martyniuk says burying his wife was hard enough, but he told 7 Action News that when cemetery crews buried his wife in the wrong spot during the funeral, the pain was almost unbearable.

"It was horrible," Ziggy said Monday. "Everything was horrible. If I could have, I would have strangled somebody, that’s how bad I felt. For her to be on her last day on earth, to do something like that, that was a shame."

Ziggy’s wife Mary Ann was buried in October of 2002 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

"The cemetery decided to remove her along with the casket by way of tow truck, in front of the whole family, to a plot that was not purchased by the Martyniuk family," Ziggy’s lawyer explained. "Their explanation for this was the fact that a plot was previously sold."

Ziggy says he didn’t receive an apology for the alleged improper burial, and he is taking legal action against the cemetery
