Funeral home law to come into effect late this year PDF Print E-mail
Written by DeadGirl

Peterborough, Canada - A new provincial law that will allow funeral homes to operate in cemeteries will come into effect by late 2008, Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal says. The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services is working with stakeholders to finalize regulations that will be included in the Funeral Burial and Cremation Services Act, Leal told The Examiner.

The bill has gone through three readings in the legislature. All that remains is for the proposed legislation to receive royal assent.

City council endorsed an official plan and zoning changes on Monday to allow Little Lake Cemetery Company to operate a funeral home at Highland Park Cemetery on Bensfort Road.

Grave Epigrams

This grave contains all that was
mortal of a young English poet who
on his death bed in the bitterness of
his heart as the malicious power
of his enemies desired these words
to be engraven on his tombstone:
"Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water"
