MEDFORD, Ore. - Making funeral arrangements after an unexpected death can be stressful for a surviving spouse, but it's a much more complicated situation if the spouse is responsible for the death. Under Oregon law, a murder suspect has the right to plan a funeral or cremation for the spouse he or she is accused of killing.

That changes on Jan. 1when a new law prohibits anyone arrested in a homicide from making arrangements for the victim.

Medical investigators say the change will make things easier for families dealing with the aftermath of murder.

Jackson County Sheriff's detective Sgt. Colin Fagan says it won't impact many people but will mean a lot to those it does.

Mark Gruenwald, the influential Marvel Comics editor who helped create Captain America, wanted his ashes mixed with ink and printed into a comic book after his death. His wife followed his wishes, and his remains were printed into a special edition poster of 'Squadron Supreme' in 1996.
