Cadets roll into action to spruce up graveyard

july 13, 2006 Middleton, UK VOLUNTEERS armed with cleaning tools descended on a Rhodes graveyard last week. Members of the Middleton detachment of the Army Cadets offered up their services to All Saints Church in Rhodes last Thursday evening for the clean up. The eight youngsters, aged between 11 and 18, spent more than an hour scrubbing the war graves which lie in the graveyard off Walker Street. As well as removing all the dirt and moss which had accumulated on the graves over the past few months, the keen cadets also tidied up the grass around the area. Vicar Andy Pell said: “Some of the war graves have been there since 1948. Many are commemorative. I approached the Middleton Army Cadets to help with the cleaning and they happily offered their time. “They scrubbed all the lichen off eight of the graves and rinsed them.
