A Taphophilia Thank You...

Taphophilia (dot) Com would not be possible without the knowledge, experience and talent of DarkestWeb. From
its conception and early development, DarkestWeb
was faced with many challenges; from inspiring and motivating, to providing guidance and direction. The continued dedication and support has produced results greater than ever expected, and for this, I owe a huge debt of gratitude.

New tests seek better DNA from WTC bones PDF Print E-mail

NEW YORK — Scientists hoping to identify more Sept. 11 victims have launched a second round of testing on human bones recently found at ground zero after initial tests did not yield strong enough DNA.

The more extensive tests are necessary to obtain better genetic material, said the lead scientist in charge of the project.

"We have to find which methods work best for the bones. We've only tried one method so far," said Ed Huffine, vice president at Bode Technology Group in Lorton, Va.

Results of the new testing method, which takes about five days to extract DNA instead of one to two days, came back for the first time Wednesday with much stronger DNA, Huffine said.

"The samples are working beautifully" with the new method, he said. "We will have good success."

Families of more than 1,100 Sept. 11 victims who remain unidentified hoped that the discovery last fall of bones in abandoned manholes and in debris at the World Trade Center site could lead to the recovery of their loved ones' remains. Experts said the remains _ some including full arm and leg bones _ were in exceptional condition and could create strong DNA profiles.

The medical examiner's office told some family members about the tests during a tour this week of the facility where debris is being sifted by hand in a renewed, yearlong search for additional remains.

One more potential bone fragment was recovered Wednesday, said Ellen Borakove, spokeswoman for the city medical examiner's office.

None of the remains recovered over the past year at ground zero and an abandoned skyscraper near the site have been identified, Borakove said.

Cowards die may times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard It seems to me most strange that men should fear, Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come.
