Burials Begin Of Unidentified Bodies From Tri-State Crematory PDF Print E-mail

Burials began on Monday at the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park of unidentified bodies from the Tri-State Crematory.

Workers began covering 133 white vaults in a long trench. The cemetery is providing the burials at no expense.

In last week's civil trial at Rome, Ga., Georgia Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Kris Sperry said there were 108 bodies not yet identified.

Dewayne Wilson, Walker County medical examiner, said the larger number of vaults buried was due to miscellaneous bones being found on the property at Noble, Ga.

There were 334 unidentified bodies found, Dr. Sperry said.

Officials said they will continue to try to identify the bodies.

Settlements in civil lawsuits have been reached totaling almost $40 million to family members of those taken to the crematory.

Crematory operator Brent Marsh faces trial later this year on 787 felony criminal counts.
