LAFAYETTE, Ga. - A judge set an Aug. 19 hearing with attorneys in the criminal case of former Tri-State Crematory operator Brent Marsh to discuss sequestering the jury. Superior Court Judge James G. Bodiford ordered the hearing. The judge has said he will make rulings Aug. 12 on more than two dozen motions in preparation for a planned Oct. 11 trial in Walker County.

Attorneys have been asked to address whether total sequestration is needed.

Marsh faces 787 state criminal charges stemming from accusations that he neglected 334 bodies he was supposed to cremate at the crematory's 16-acre site in northwest Georgia.

The corpses were discovered strewn across the grounds of the crematory, and tests later revealed the crematory gave some families cement dust instead of ashes.

Citing extensive media coverage, Bodiford previously ruled that jurors would be selected from Lee County.

Officials said jury selection could take a week and the trial could last for several months.
