Dynamite stolen from Moon cemetery PDF Print E-mail

Federal agents are helping Moon police attempt to track down a load of explosives that was stolen from a cemetery last month. Moon police Capt. Leo McCarthy said this morning that his detectives and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have "visited numerous people" during the probe, which began last week. No arrests have been made.

Officials at Resurrection Cemetery in Moon called police July 30 to report that a small quantity of dynamite and blasting caps had been stolen from a storage locker there. McCarthy said it was unclear exactly when the TNT was taken. Cemetery workers discovered the break-in during a "routine check" of the containers, police said.

The cemetery was licensed to own the explosives and had properly stored them, police said. They are used to assist in the excavation of grave sites, police said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the missing dynamite is asked to call Moon police at (412) 262-5000 or the BATF at (412) 395-0540.
