Man admits false entries on burials register PDF Print E-mail

A former council worker today pleaded guilty to two counts of making false entries in a register of burials.

Jeffrey Hunt, 60, admitted making entries in a register at Glyntaff Cemetery, Pontypridd, South Wales, which falsely showed that two people had been buried in particular graves. Hunt, of Heol-Y-Fedwen, Tonteg, South Wales, originally faced 19 counts of making a false entry but it was decided not to proceed on the other 17 counts.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that in 2001 he falsified the burial record of Lilly Blackburn and in 2002 he entered a false record for Michael Thorngate.

Nicholas Jones, prosecuting, said the Crown wished to avoid the distress a trial may cause to the families involved.

He said: "No one really understands the motive, he simply would not accept he was wrong about anything."

Hunt was given unconditional bail to return for sentencing on September 2.
